چکیده

Hormonal changes, substrate mobilization and energy metabolism were studied in turbot Scophthalmus maximus exposed to 3 hypoxic conditions (oxygen partial pressure in water, PwO2 = 90, 60 and 30 mm Hg) followed by recovery under normoxia. Measurements of the blood pH, total CO2 concentration, arterial oxygen partial pressure, hematocrit, glucose, lactate, and ‘stress’ hormones (cortisol, adrenaline and noradrenaline) plasmatic concentrations were performed. Highenergy phosphorylated compounds, glycogen, glucose and lactate concentrations were also determined in liver and white muscle tissues. Exposure to 90 or 60 mm Hg did not induce any major physiological change, as hyperventilation by itself could compensate for the decrease in water oxygen tension. At 30 mm Hg, marked increases in cortisol, adrenaline and noradrenaline concentrations, associated with a decrease in blood arterial oxygen partial pressure, were observed. During exposure to 30 mm Hg, turbot resorted to anaerobic metabolism, resulting in liver glycogen depletion and lactate production. This mechanism appeared to be efficient enough to produce energy, as no significant change in phosphorylated compounds and adenylate energy charges in muscle and liver could be observed. These results indicate an absence of metabolic depression in turbot down to 30 mm Hg and confirm the high capacity of this species to cope with low water oxygen tension.

Effects of seawater pH on survival, growth, energy budget and oxidative stress parameters of juvenile turbot Scophthalmus maximus

This study aimed to elucidate the influence of environment pH on survival, growth, energy allocation and oxidative damage of juvenile Scophthalmus maximus (19.89±0.25 g). Six pH treatments (6.3±0.2、6.8±0.2、7.3±0.2、7.8±0.2、8.3±0.2、8.8±0.2) lasting for eight weeks were included. Measurements of survival (SR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), specific growth rate (SGR), weight gain rate (WGR), energy ...

Evaluation of immunomodulatory effects of lactic acid bacteria in turbot (Scophthalmus maximus).

In the present work, the effects of several lactic acid bacteria on the immune response of turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) macrophages have been studied both in vitro and in vivo. Out of six lactic acid bacterial strains tested, only heat-killed Lactococcus lactis significantly increased the turbot head kidney macrophage chemiluminescent (CL) response after 24 h of incubation. Nitric oxide (NO) w...

Isolation of oxidase-negative Aeromonas salmonicida from diseased turbot Scophthalmus maximus

The first outbreak of dlsease due to an atyplcal Aeromonas salmonicida among turbot Scophthalmus maximus (L . ) in Denmark is reported. The causal organism was oxidase-negative, non-pigmented, and slow-growing. Additionally it differed from the typical strains in a number of biochemical characters. The mortality among turbot in the farm was high but was responsive to antlmlcrobial therapy.

Genomic Sequencing of Ranaviruses Isolated from Turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) and Atlantic Cod (Gadus morhua)

Ranaviruses have been isolated from Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) and turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) in Denmark. Phylogenomic analyses revealed that these two ranaviruses are nearly identical and form a distinct clade at the base of the ranavirus tree branching off near other fish ranaviruses.
